Americans Call on Food Companies to Can Monsanto’s New GMO Corn

In August, the gene altered (GMO) crop giant Monsanto announced it would for the first time sell a variety of GMO sweet corn, intended for marketing as canned and/or frozen whole corn. Since the vast majority of GMO corn has, until now, been used as animal feed or for highly processed foods, this development called for urgent action.

CEH called for a response and swift action followed. Two major food companies, General Mills and Trader Joe’s, replied to a letter from CEH by telling us that they will not be using the new Monsanto corn. We’ve asked the top makers and retailers of canned and frozen corn to make the same commitment – and together with the Center for Food Safety, CREDO Action, Food Democracy Now!, and Food & Water Watch we delivered more than 250,000 petition signatures to these companies!

Let’s keep the pressure on these companies for safe food! If you have not already, you can take action and join hundreds of thousands of Americans calling on food makers to reject Monsanto’s new corn.
