Decision Time for Governor Brown: Stop Methyl Iodide Now!

It’s not too late for Jerry Brown to save thousands of farms from being doused with the highly toxic methyl iodide.  But he must act fast.  Fumigation season is near for many non-organic California farmers, and already the toxic pesticide has been applied to a garden nursery, two pepper farms, and an almond orchard in the state.  We’ve warned about the the nasty health hazards of cancer-causing methyl iodide before, and organizations, including CEH, have worked hard for the last couple years to keep this pesticide out of our state.  A group of renowned scientists commissioned to review the pesticide wrote, “Any anticipated (fumigation) scenario would result in exposures to a large number of the public and thus would have a significant adverse impact on the public health.”
