An Incalculable Loss
I couldn’t bring myself to write this for a few days: the loss is so huge, the void is so vast. My dear friend, long-time CEH board member, and national environmental justice leader Cecil Corbin-Mark…

As the pandemic keeps us all physically apart, coming together virtually matters more than ever. Like many organizations, CEH has transformed our in-person events into online panels, virtual town halls, and other virtual events.
A week ago, the entire University of California (UC) system became the first public university system in the nation to sign CEH’s Purchaser Pledge for healthier furniture. These standards restrict the use of five key toxic chemical classes (flame retardants, fluorinated stain treatments…
The coronavirus pandemic has made disinfectant sprays and wipes into everyday household needs. Like all of us, I want to keep myself and my family healthy. I know that phrase on the spray bottle, “Kills 99.9% of bacteria & viruses”, can give us all a sense of security and health.

Before COVID-19, my job at CEH consisted of visiting malls to buy products, which I brought back to CEH’s lab to test for illegal toxic chemicals using our X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) machine. Most often, I tested fashion accessories for lead, a chemical that causes neurological damage, reproductive harm, and cancer.
