CEH and M.H.P. Concerned Residents co-hosted a Community Gathering & Environmental Health Fair recently to support El Cajon residents’ efforts to organize around environmental justice, chemical exposure, and renters’ rights issues affecting their community.
As the pandemic keeps us all physically apart, coming together virtually matters more than ever. Like many organizations, CEH has transformed our in-person events into online panels, virtual town halls, and other virtual events.
Since its founding in 1996, CEH has always prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as part of its core values. From our hiring processes to our programmatic work, we have put DEI at the forefront of our thoughts, and asked ourselves regularly if we’re doing all we can to ensure that CEH is the inclusive organization we envision it to be.
Before COVID-19, my job at CEH consisted of visiting malls to buy products, which I brought back to CEH’s lab to test for illegal toxic chemicals using our X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) machine. Most often, I tested fashion accessories for lead, a chemical that causes neurological damage, reproductive harm, and cancer.
